How to Choose the Perfect Photo for Your Dog Memorial Night Light
When a beloved dog passes away, we search for ways to keep their memory alive. A custom memorial night light is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give yourself or someone who is grieving — a soft, glowing portrait that sits beside the bed and brings comfort through the night.
But before the magic can happen, you need one thing: the right photo. Here is how to choose it.
1. Look for a Clear, Well-Lit Face
The most important element is your dog's face. Our artists hand-craft every portrait from your photo, so clarity matters. Choose a photo where your dog's eyes, nose, and expression are sharp and easy to see. Natural daylight photos tend to work best — avoid photos taken in dim rooms or with harsh flash.
2. Choose a Photo That Captures Their Personality
Was your dog playful and always mid-zoomies? Or calm and dignified, always sitting by your side? The photo you choose sets the mood for the entire portrait. Pick one that makes you feel like you can hear their bark or feel their fur under your hand.
3. Avoid Heavy Filters or Cropping
Instagram filters and heavy edits can distort color tones and blur details. Try to use an original, unedited photo if possible. And make sure your dog's full face is in frame — cropped ears or a cut-off chin make it harder for our artists to capture a complete likeness.
4. A Solo Shot Works Best
Photos where your dog is the clear subject work better than group shots with people or other pets. If your best photo has others in it, that is okay — just let us know which dog is yours when you place your order.
5. When in Doubt, Send More Than One
We always send you a preview by email before anything goes to print. If you are unsure which photo is best, send us two or three and we will help you choose. Nothing is finalized until you say yes.
Your dog deserves to be remembered beautifully. Take your time choosing the photo — and know that our team is here to help every step of the way.
